Police Department to Undergo Police Accreditation
The Mendon Police Department will be hosting an on-site assessment by the Massachusetts Police Accreditation Commission, Inc., from April 29, 2024 to May 3, 2024.
The Family Services Unit is dedicated to delivering proactive community support to individuals in need, preventing crises before they escalate. Our multidisciplinary team—comprised of police officers, mental health clinicians, peer specialists, and recovery coaches—works collaboratively to assist those at risk of arrest, medical complications, and other behavioral challenges. By integrating the expertise of the Police Department with the resources of the Community Impact Program, we aim to foster positive change and enhance the well-being of our community.
The unit utilizes a co-response model to calls for service, providing an immediate assessment of individuals’ safety and mental health service needs. This approach ensures that trained professionals are on-site to address complex situations effectively.
Clinicians, alongside members of the Family Services Unit, offer ongoing support and stability to individuals whose circumstances might typically lead to another emergency. This proactive follow-up helps to further reduce the likelihood of crises and promotes long-term well-being.
Through a combination of training modalities, police officers learn to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental illness in the community and apply specialized de-escalation techniques. This training enhances officers’ ability to respond compassionately and effectively in high-stress situations.
