Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Monday, March 23, 2020

Monday, March 23, 2020

Massachusetts Department of Health has issued a "Stay at Home" order until April 7, 2020.

This is not a "Shelter in Place." While travel is permitted, it should be limited. Additionally, all non-essential businesses must close by 12 noon tomorrow, March 24, 2020.

See the attached link for details and information regarding what qualifies as "essential" and "non-essential" employment. Grocery stores, pharmacies, and gas stations will remain open. Additionally, restaurants may remain open for take out orders and deliveries.

On March 10, 2020, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts has declared a state of emergency and has urged other agencies to take action to prevent the spread of the COVID-19.  As a police department, it is impossible for our employees to cut off all contact with the public, and because our role in the community is so vital, we must respond to this situation with some changes. In response to the state of emergency, and to protect the members of the Department and the public, please review the following changes that will affect the community.

Police Station Accessibility: We encourage the public to call our Communication Center, 508-478-2737, for non-emergency services and we will facilitate what is needed. Mendon Police Officers will still be on-duty 24/7 to respond to all emergency situations during this unprecedented time. We encourage residents to utilize our online forms to limit unnecessary visits to our police department.

Firearms Licensing: Renewals of firearms licenses will only occur electronically. The picture needed to complete the renewal will occur on a later date to be determined.  All new license applications are suspended until further notice. To file your LTC renewal, please mail or email your completed and signed LTC Renewal Form to Sergeant Kloczkowski at gkloczkowski@mendonma.gov . Visit our Firearms Licensing page for more information.

Fingerprintings / Ride-Alongs: Fingerprinting requests are suspended until further notice as well as the citizen ride-along program

Food: Food brought to the station by members of the community shall not be accepted.  Eating from a large common tray of food is an effective way to spread an illness; therefore we shall not take these trays in until further notice.

Solicitor Permits: All previously issued solicitor permits are rescinded and no new permits will be issued until further notice.

Town of Mendon Emergency Notifications: If you haven’t signed up for our CodeRED emergency notification service please take a moment to do so today by clicking here. It only takes about 5 minutes to create a profile. If you need assistance creating one please email MPDMediaRelations@mendonma.gov

We understand that some of these changes may be an inconvenience to the public. We ask for your consideration as we concentrate our efforts on being prepared to respond to emergency calls for service and continuing to maintain our mission of providing a safe community for all who live, work, and visit the Town of Mendon. These changes outlined above are in place to limit potential exposure of our staff to the virus and keep them healthy and able to respond to emergencies.

Thank you for your understanding, and continued support.
